Holey Light is a LED emulation app. It animates the edges of the camera cut-out (AKA punch-hole) as a replacement for the missing LED on many modern devices.

In addition, it provides a notification display when the screen is "off," either replacing or working together with the Always-On Display feature. This display, aptly named the Unholey Light, is not located around the camera hole.

It supports all Samsung devices with an in-screen camera hole and several Google Pixels.

Setup

The initial setup may be a bit challenging for first-time users, but the app includes a setup wizard that guides you through the process.

Permissions

This app requires several permissions to function properly. If you have concerns, you can review the source code or choose not to use the app. The required permissions are:

• Accessibility: The app needs an accessibility service to render the emulated LED on-screen and track its correct position in screen "off" mode.
• Notifications: A notification service is required to be able to retrieve information about notifications and display them.
• Companion device: This permission is required to read the LED color of notifications.
• Battery optimization exemption: Without this permission, the Android system may interfere with the emulated LED.
• Foreground service: Both accessibility and notification services are used as described above.
• Wake lock: The app needs to prevent the CPU from sleeping to draw on the screen at your chosen times.
• All package access: The app renders icons from other apps and accesses some of their basic information to differentiate between notifications.
